Acting Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Office, Dren Paca, has approved amendments and additions to the Guidelines on the daily activities of the Registry Office. The decision aims to respect the powers and functional independence of special prosecutors to launch ex officio investigations.

Under the new decision, special prosecutors may directly approach the Registry Office to obtain a case registration number when they wish to launch ex officio investigations. Prior authorization from the Chief Prosecutor is no longer required for this action.
The changes are intended to simplify the administrative procedure for registering cases, as well as encourage prosecutors to investigate, ex officio, criminal offenses that fall within the legal jurisdiction of the Special Prosecution Office.
The Special Prosecution Office stressed that it will continue its efforts to combat organized crime and corruption, as well as investigate all criminal offenses within its jurisdiction, in accordance with the law in force.
