At the confirmation hearing for the case of the four former KLA leaders, presiding judge Charles Smith emphasized that the Specialist Prosecution failed to prove the charges of crimes against humanity.

“In relation to the allegation of a widespread and systematic attack against civilians, as an essential element of the crime against humanity, the Trial Panel concluded that the SPO did not present sufficient evidence to support this point,” he said.
Smith added that “the Prosecution did not prove beyond any reasonable doubt that such an attack targeted the civilian population.”
The hearing is still ongoing.
