“The Odyssey” Sets New Record, Christopher Nolan’s Film Surpasses $650 Million in 13 Days

Christopher Nolan’s latest film, “The Odyssey,” has become the biggest cinema phenomenon of 2026. The adaptation of Homer’s poem has grossed more than $650 million worldwide in just 13 days since its premiere, marking the fastest performance of any film by the British director.

“The Odyssey” has also quickly outpaced the success of “Oppenheimer.” The latter took 595 days to reach $330 million in revenue in the United States alone, while the new film surpassed the same figure in just 13 days, demonstrating the extraordinary level of public interest.

The production, starring Matt Damon in the lead role, was made on a budget of $250 million, while a further $125 million was spent on its marketing campaign. Global revenue has so far surpassed the $650 million mark and is expected to rise significantly, as the film has yet to open in China, one of the world’s largest markets.

Industry analysts believe “The Odyssey” could surpass Nolan’s two biggest hits: “The Dark Knight Rises,” with $1.08 billion, and “The Dark Knight,” with $1.06 billion. If that happens, the production will become the highest-grossing film of the director’s career.

Audience demand remains extremely high, particularly for IMAX screenings. “The Odyssey” is the first film shot entirely using IMAX technology, while ticket bookings at many cinemas have extended into September, with interest remaining at very high levels.
