Students set fire to effigies of Rama and Berisha as activist calls for their departure: They have held the country hostage for 36 years

Student protesters burned effigies representing Edi Rama and Sali Berisha at the dialogue table set up by the prime minister. Through this action, the protesters held the leaders of the Socialist Party (PS) and the Democratic Party (PD) responsible for the current situation in Albania.

The protest was another expression of dissatisfaction with both Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government and the opposition led by Sali Berisha.

One of the activists called on both politicians to leave public life, accusing them of holding Albania hostage for 36 years. He said Rama and Berisha intend to remain in power for as long as they live.

The activist categorically rejected the prime minister’s invitation to dialogue. He described bringing chairs to that location for dialogue as pointless when, he said, students and protesters had been subjected to horrific violence.

Insisting that these two political figures should no longer be given a platform, he demanded that Rama and Berisha stop appearing in public.
