A magnitude 5.0 earthquake has shaken Spain, causing considerable damage and panic among residents and tourists. A state of emergency has been declared in the southern city of Granada after several buildings were damaged or collapsed, while large rocks fell onto vehicles.

Due to the situation, several hotels were evacuated, while residents and tourists rushed out into the streets.
The main earthquake, which struck at around 1:00 a.m. local time, was followed by 12 further tremors. Footage posted on social media shows moments of panic, with tourists leaving their accommodation carrying suitcases in their hands.
Homes and vehicles are reported to have sustained extensive damage, while deep cracks have appeared on some roads as a result of the powerful tremors.
Emergency services in Andalusia intervened in several affected areas and rescued people who had been trapped in damaged buildings.
