The next presidential election in France will be held on April 18 and May 2, 2027. The decision was confirmed to AFP by a government source and is expected to be formally approved at Wednesday’s cabinet meeting.
The same source said the executive had preferred this timetable, abandoning the other option that envisaged holding the election on April 11 and 25, 2027.

The French Constitution states that the presidential election must be organized 20 to 35 days before the end of the incumbent president’s term.
Emmanuel Macron began his second term on May 14, 2022 and, under constitutional limits, he is not entitled to run for a third consecutive term.
The first round will take place during the spring school holidays, while the second round has been set for May 2, 2027, one day after the May 1 holiday.
