A phone discovered during surprise inspections at Fier prison has been sent to SPAK for examination and expert analysis after it was found thrown from a cell during the prison police operation.
According to suspicions, the mobile device belongs to Azgan Mërnica, who was sentenced by the Court of Appeal to 35 years in prison for the murder of officer Novruz Cenalia in Fier.

Earlier, the reduction of the sentence from life imprisonment for the perpetrator of the murder of the Shqiponja unit officer prompted a reaction from the Interior Minister. Meanwhile, after the surprise searches, Mërnica denied that the phone was his. Despite this, the AMSEVP agency at the Ministry of Justice is investigating the case and suspects that the phone was being used by Mërnica.
For this reason, the operational forces that carried out the inspections in sector 3, second floor, in the Pre-Trial Detention Building, where no prohibited items were found, have also been questioned.
The document states that “during the search in the soft perimeter from inside the regime opposite guard post 4, below the Pre-Trial Detention Building, 2 black mobile phones and 1 white charging cable were found, with no identified owner.”
Unofficial sources from officers in the security block have stated that the device was thrown from the cell where Mërnica is being held.
