Lawmakers seek international pressure on Serbia to bring those responsible for Banjska attack to justice

Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora have asked Germany’s ambassador to Kosovo, Rainer Rudolph, to urge the international community to put pressure on Serbia to bring those responsible for the terrorist attack in Banjska to justice. Committee chair Arbreshë Kryeziu announced the request, KosovaPress reports.

After the committee meeting, Kryeziu said all lawmakers had backed the request. She said that if those responsible continue to move freely in Serbia and do not face justice, conditions could emerge for similar attacks in the future.

She explained that lawmakers had asked international representatives to raise the issue as well. According to Kryeziu, they have the reports needed to identify the perpetrators and those responsible for the attack. The request to Serbia comes after the country completed a new electoral process and is expected to have a new political lineup.

The meeting also covered strengthening parliamentary cooperation with Germany. Kryeziu said the ambassador had expressed his willingness to take the committee’s requests forward, while lawmakers aim to begin meetings with their counterparts in the Bundestag and invite them to Kosovo.

According to Kryeziu, the committee’s first meeting with the new German ambassador was primarily introductory. Lawmakers presented their views on the processes Kosovo is going through and asked for Germany’s continued support.

The committee asked that Kosovo remain on Germany’s agenda, both in its path toward European integration and in its efforts to join international organizations, including the Council of Europe and NATO. Kryeziu described these organizations as particularly important at a time when Europe is facing a highly fragile situation.
