400 kilograms of fish released into Lake Mavrovo; carp fishing banned for two months

Lake Mavrovo and the waterways within the territory of Mavrovo National Park have been stocked with new fish.

As part of the annual plan to replenish aquatic waters, 200 kilograms of trout and 200 kilograms of carp—a total of 400 kilograms of fish—were released into the lake and surrounding waters.

According to Mavrovo National Park, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to preserve and improve fish stocks, as well as maintain the natural balance of aquatic ecosystems.

“Protecting the waters and fish stocks is a shared responsibility. By following the rules and acting responsibly, we contribute to preserving the park’s natural wealth,” said a statement from the Mavrovo Public Enterprise.

Meanwhile, a two-month ban on carp fishing (Cyprinus carpio) in the recreational zone of Lake Mavrovo takes effect tomorrow. The decision was made by the relevant minister at the request of National Park officials and will remain in force until December 31, 2026.

Mavrovo National Park says the ban is intended to give the released fish the opportunity to adapt, spread and grow successfully in the natural conditions of Lake Mavrovo, helping to preserve and replenish fish stocks.
