The criticisms of the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, regarding the amendments to the Law on Specialized Chambers, have received a response from the Deputy Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Vlora Çitaku, who comes from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

According to her, Kosovo may from time to time have divergences even with its international allies, and this should not be seen as something abnormal.
“It is normal sometimes not to have agreements with friends,” Çitaku stated.
She emphasized that what remains essential is the fact that the country’s institutions make clear to Brussels the objective of these legislative amendments.
“It is important to clarify with the EU what that law requires,” she added to her statement.
On the other hand, the head of the Vetëvendosje Movement Parliamentary Group, Arbërie Nagavci, dwelling on the position of the EU representative, recalled that reservations about this law had been expressed early on by her party.
The statements of the aforementioned politicians came shortly after Marta Kos stated on Monday that the amendments to the Law on Specialized Chambers contradict Kosovo’s basic commitments to the European Union.
These words were spoken before the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers held in Luxembourg, while the statement was broadcast by Radio Free Europe. In it, the legislative changes were described by Kos as something unacceptable.
The European official argued that modifying the rules while cases are still in the judicial process violates internationally accepted standards for the rule of law.
Finally, Kos also issued a warning: states that take steps backward regarding European standards put at risk their path to becoming members of the European Union.
