The aircraft was a Cessna 680A Citation Latitude reportedly owned by Turkish billionaire and businessman Hamdi Akin. Libya’s Ministry of Transport said the incident caused no fatalities or injuries.

The aircraft was heading to Libya to pick up passengers, while only the pilot and one crew member were on board. Both people exited the plane unharmed.
Immediately after veering off the runway, the aircraft caught fire and a large amount of black smoke rose over the airport. Firefighting services responded at the scene and worked to extinguish the flames.
