Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, has issued a stark warning about the development of artificial intelligence, just days after a young researcher resigned from the company.

During an interview with CBS News, Amodei emphasized that the current pace of AI development could have extraordinary consequences. According to him, if this development is not slowed, within six to 12 months artificial intelligence could be capable of directing a group of virtual agents that could take control of the entire internet.
Amodei acknowledged that he himself did not initially fully understand what such rapid technological progress would entail. For this reason, he called for greater attention and a slowdown in the pace at which artificial intelligence is being developed.
However, the Anthropic founder clarified that this assessment does not imply an immediate halt to progress. He said the situation should not cause panic and that it is not necessary to stop everything, but that the pace of development should be slowed.
His position has also been supported by other prominent figures in the industry. Sam Altman, head of OpenAI, described the idea of independent monitoring as useful, while Elon Musk said that Amodei “is right.”
The main concern relates to AI’s growing ability to carry out cyberattacks, as well as the possibility of its use in other dangerous ways. Anthropic previously announced that it had identified attempts to use its models maliciously.
