During his homily at Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pope delivered a strong message against war, stressing that armed conflict can never have moral justification and does not reflect God’s will.
In his sermon, he said: “War is never worthy of man and is never blessed by God, because the Creator has endowed us with the intelligence and the will to resolve conflicts as human beings and not as animals, perhaps equipped with hyper-technological weapons,” highlighting humanity’s moral responsibility to avoid violence.

The Pope also underlined that the human family has a unity that stands above national and political divisions, which he defined as a fundamental principle that should guide global decision-making and international relations.
“The unity of the human family precedes individual peoples and states. It is not only a biological fact, it is an ethical principle,” the Pope stressed, as he called on the international community to refocus its attention on solidarity and peaceful coexistence.
These remarks were delivered during the Mass that effectively marked the opening of the Extraordinary Consistory, an important gathering of the cardinals of the Catholic Church.
Later, during the continuation of the first working session, discussions focused on the international situation and the many crises currently affecting the world, while the Pope called for deeper reflection on the role of the Church and world leaders in building peace.
