The news was confirmed in Moscow by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, quoted by the state news agency Tass.
Peskov explained that the pause is linked to the “preparation and start of contacts” with the American delegation. The temporary ceasefire will begin in the early hours of Sunday and will remain in force for three days.
The Kremlin spokesperson also announced that Putin will meet on Saturday, 05.09.2026, with US special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump. Earlier, Ukraine had announced that because of this visit, it would not endanger Russian airspace for a three-day period.
President Donald Trump stated on Friday, 04.09.2026, that Washington has launched a new diplomatic effort to end the war.
Speaking about Witkoff and Kushner, Trump described them as “two excellent negotiators” and added: “We have sent them there to see whether we can achieve something.”
The two American negotiators have brought a US plan to Moscow for ending the conflict, which they intend to present during the meetings.
After a pause, the United States is resuming its mediation efforts to end Russia’s war of aggression, which has entered its fourth and a half year. Witkoff and Kushner have visited Moscow several times, while on Sunday they are expected to travel to Kyiv for the first time as well.
