Sources close to the Democratic Party told Top Channel journalist Elda Menga that the party leader had been informed that his U.S. visa had been approved.
According to the same sources, Berisha may appear at the U.S. Embassy in Tirana on Tuesday morning to collect his passport.
The news that he had been issued a visa became known just a few hours after Berisha said publicly that the travel documents were still at the U.S. Embassy and that he had received no notification regarding his passport.
When asked whether he had received his passport and whether he had scheduled meetings at the U.S. Department of State, Berisha said that, up to that point, he had not arranged any such meetings.
He has announced that he intends to travel to Texas, where he is expected to attend a conference of American Republicans as part of the delegation of the International Democrat Union.
The Democratic Party leader has also denied having any meetings planned at the U.S. Department of State. Collecting his passport on Tuesday would clear the way for his trip to the United States.
