The American request was conveyed to Kyiv last week, according to a source cited by Reuters, in connection with the trip by a senior U.S. official to Russia.
On Wednesday, Ratcliffe made an undeclared visit to Moscow, NBC News reported. It was his first visit to the Russian capital since being appointed CIA director.
Details about the reason for the visit and the officials he may have met have not been made public. So far, the visit has not been officially confirmed by either Washington or Moscow.
