As August draws to a close, political activity within the Socialist Party is intensifying, while Prime Minister Edi Rama has planned a series of meetings to mark the start of the new political session.

The first meeting will take place today at around 11:30 in Pogradec, while another meeting is scheduled for tomorrow in the same city.
The 12 regional political leaders and the Socialist chairs of parliamentary committees are expected to gather at the government villa in Pogradec.
According to Socialist Party sources, discussions will focus on the “Besa” document and another document called “The Presence of Besa,” which was presented to the Socialist parliamentary group at the end of July.
Rama is expected to receive comments and suggestions on the two documents, with the aim of refining them and drafting a final version. Preparations for the 2027 local elections will also be on the agenda.
On Sunday evening, the prime minister will hold a dinner with the political leaders, parliamentary committee chairs and ministers. The meeting is expected to help ease the tensions of August before the “performance review” begins on Monday.
Also in Pogradec, as part of an informal government meeting known as a “retreat,” ministers will present reports on the work of their ministries during the January-August 2026 period.
Unlike previous meetings in this format, deputy ministers will not be present this time. Only ministers and the heads of agencies under their authority will attend the meeting.
As in previous years’ retreats, ministers will also report on their media activity and their institutions’ presence on social media.
Rama’s political engagements will not end with this weekend’s meetings. Socialist Party sources say the Socialist National Assembly will most likely convene in the first week of September.
Rama has also used previous Socialist assembly meetings to announce changes to the government cabinet.
