Footage captured by people present at the scene and shared on social media platforms shows the tourists’ desperate efforts to withstand the powerful flow, as they tried to help one another avoid being swept away by the water.
Park staff responded without delay and successfully evacuated everyone at risk. According to reports, the consequences for them were minimal: only a few superficial injuries and scratches, which were treated with first aid at the scene.
A witness said that moments before the water began surging furiously, they had heard a warning whistle from a park ranger. The witness added that they had just been preparing to move toward the waterfall to take some photos when the water flow suddenly and violently increased.
Following the incident, authorities imposed a temporary closure on access to Mae Sa Waterfall in order to protect visitors from potential dangers.
