During the meeting, it was emphasized that the best interests of the child must remain at the center of all actions, in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Particular attention was devoted to the implementation of the Law on Child Justice, as well as the need to continuously strengthen the capacities of all entities involved in the child justice system.
The new law requires professionals working with children to be specialized. For this reason, continuing training for justice professionals is particularly important so that children who are victims or witnesses of violence and crime are treated and protected appropriately, while restorative justice approaches are also implemented. In this process, bylaws represent another important element, as they define clear procedures, standards and tools for the uniform implementation of the law’s principles.
A child-friendly judicial system must understand children’s needs, guarantee the protection of their rights and provide everyone with real and equal access to justice.
The Ministry of Justice emphasizes that it will continue its commitment to strengthening child justice and creating institutional conditions in which the rights of every child are fully respected and protected.
