A ship was struck by an unidentified projectile while leaving the Strait of Hormuz. The news was confirmed by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO), which monitors the security situation for ships and seafarers worldwide.

According to the notice, the ship’s flag has not yet been determined, while the incident occurred during the outbound passage of the strait. One crew member was injured and is receiving treatment from the Omani Coast Guard.

UKMTO has not provided details on the vessel’s exact position. Oman shares territorial waters of the Strait of Hormuz with Iran, while the event was recorded shortly after statements by U.S. President Donald Trump that the United States would “bomb Oman without mercy” if that country becomes involved in the strait issue during the conflict with Iran.

Trump made these comments in an interview with Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, at a time when the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is expected to end. “If Oman gets in our way, we will bomb it without mercy,” he declared.

Last week, Iran announced that it was negotiating with Oman on how to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which is a strategic corridor for maritime oil transport.

In June, the United States and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cease hostilities and launch efforts toward a “final agreement” within 60 days. The goal was to end the war on all fronts and address complex issues, including Tehran’s nuclear program. However, the 60-day deadline ended one day earlier without any concrete agreement reached so far.
