The national protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office is emerging not only as an act of civic resistance, but also as an effort to give clearer organization to the representation of citizens’ voices. One of the protesters who spoke from the मंच made known the progress of a proposal put forward a few days earlier to create a National Citizens’ Assembly.
He said the initiative has been met with very broad support from the people in the square and that work on organizing it has already entered a concrete phase, with hundreds of people ready to get involved.

In his remarks to those present, the protester also explained how this body is expected to function, as well as the number of participants who will be included in it, with the aim of ensuring the most legitimate possible representation of the public anger.
“A few days ago during the protest I spoke about establishing a national citizens’ assembly, and it received the approval of a large part of the people in the square, and we have begun working to make this happen. Around 500 potential members have been gathered, but before we continue we need approval or consent. At the moment those people are selected, there will be no fewer than 300 to represent all segments of the protest,” he declared before the crowd.
He further underlined that the entire selection process will be conducted with full transparency, stressing that no one will be able to become part of this structure without first receiving the support of the protesters on the boulevard.
According to him, each candidate will present themselves openly before the citizens in order to receive their direct approval, so as to avoid any form of self-appointment.
“Each person will come before the people and receive approval from the people. There will be no one chosen by themselves, only with the approval of the protesting people,” he concluded to the applause of those gathered in the square.
