The rally was marked by tension, as several rubbish bins were set on fire and protesters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at law enforcement officers. Police responded with water cannon trucks and tear gas.
The Italian media outlet reports that, despite heavy rain and a decline in the number of protesters, the crowd later moved toward the prime minister’s office, where the situation grew tense again.
There, several hundred demonstrators removed paving stones from the pavement along the main boulevard and threw them at police officers stationed near the side entrance of the government building. Police responded by deploying water cannon trucks, while protesters again threw Molotov cocktails.
According to the report, after police called on the demonstrators to withdraw, officers intervened with tear gas and three water cannon trucks, dispersing the crowd. Meanwhile, numerous police vehicles were positioned on the capital’s main roads to prevent further gatherings.
The protest continues to focus on the political demand for Edi Rama’s resignation, while the latest clashes are also attracting attention in the international media.
