Scottish police investigate Epstein and Maxwell’s visit to Balmoral at Andrew’s invitation

Scottish authorities have opened an investigation into visits by Jeffrey Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, to the royal residence at Balmoral after receiving information about the matter.

Reports say that the two visited the royal estate in 1999 after being invited by Prince Andrew, who at the time was one of the best-known figures in the British royal family.

A representative of Police Scotland said the case was being examined but clarified that the investigation was still in its early stages.

“Every investigation is based on evidence and focused on the needs of victims and survivors. We do not make details of ongoing investigations public, and it would not be appropriate to provide further comment,” the spokesperson said.

Located in Scotland, Balmoral Castle has been part of the British royal family’s estates since 1852, when it was purchased by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The residence is considered one of the royal family’s favorites and was where Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, aged 96.

The investigation has been made public at a time when former Prince Andrew’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein continue to weigh on the British monarchy.

At the end of last year, King Charles stripped his brother of his prince and duke titles following repeated controversy over Andrew’s relationship with the American financier, who had been convicted of sex crimes.

Andrew was arrested on February 19, the day he turned 66, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The measure was taken after allegations that, while serving as the United Kingdom’s trade envoy, he had passed sensitive information to Epstein.

The former prince was interviewed by authorities and was subsequently released, while proceedings against him continue. Andrew has categorically denied any allegations of wrongdoing or inappropriate behavior.
