“I hope that you and the responsible institutions will not be forced to respond only after my life has been taken.” This is what Arlinda Sylaj Zekaj wrote in a letter addressed to the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Peja, which was received and stamped on October 22, 2026.
Just three days after submitting the letter, on October 25, the 49-year-old woman was killed in her home in Vitomirica. Her brother-in-law is suspected in connection with the incident.

The media has obtained the document, in which Arlinda called for an urgent response from the institutions, the enforcement of a court order and the opening of an investigation into officials who, according to her, had failed to carry out their duties.
The letter was addressed to the Chief Prosecutor and marked as urgent. In it, Arlinda clearly expressed fear for her life and warned that the danger she was facing was not being taken seriously.
She called for measures to be taken against the responsible officials, claiming that the institutions were passing responsibility from one to another while the threat against her continued.
Arlinda also called for the immediate enforcement of the court order and an investigation into the officials involved in the case, beginning with the Center for Social Work.
“This is my final addendum,” she wrote in the document, before expressing concern that the institutions might be held accountable only after her life had been taken.
The final message in the letter was: “Now I understand why there are so many murders!”

On October 25, three days after the Prosecution had received the letter, Arlinda was found murdered in the bedroom of her home on “Man Dedushaj” Street in Vitomirica.
