After reviewing the submission, the chief prosecutor ordered that it be registered and assigned to a competent prosecutor, who would assess the allegations of criminal liability related to the offense of “Abuse of Official Position or Authority,” the Prosecution Office said.

The submission was also sent for urgent review to the Peja Regional Police Directorate, the Basic Court in Peja, the Directorate for Social Welfare, and the Center for Social Work. These institutions were asked to examine the allegations and verify whether officials had failed to act or had taken action within the scope of their responsibilities.

Among the matters raised by Zekaj was the enforcement of a court decision on equal use of the house. According to the Prosecution Office, the decision was enforced with the intervention of the prosecutor on duty and in cooperation with the Kosovo Police.

The Basic Prosecution Office in Peja said it would treat both the victim’s allegations and the actions of the institutions with seriousness and professionalism, while respecting legal procedures and the relevant jurisdictions.

The investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances of the killing and the criminal liability for it, as well as examine the allegations Zekaj had presented in her submission. In its statement, the Prosecution Office expressed its sincerest condolences to the victim’s family.
