Vučić loses the election/ EU congratulates the Student List: Ready to support reforms in Serbia

European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have congratulated the Student List on its victory in the early parliamentary elections. In a post on the platform X, they expressed the European institutions’ readiness to support Serbia’s progress toward the European Union.

“We are ready to support reforms in the areas of the rule of law, media freedom, the fight against corruption and the strengthening of democratic institutions, as well as to work together to make Serbia’s European future a reality,” they said in a joint post on X.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos also congratulated the Student List, saying the election result marks a new beginning in Serbia’s relations with Brussels.

Congratulating the Student List, she said the people of Serbia had made their voices heard by turning out to vote in historic numbers, following almost two years of protests for democracy, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

“A new chapter can begin for Serbia. The EU’s doors are open, and we are ready to move forward together. These are precisely the values at the heart of our European Union,” Kos said in a written statement distributed to journalists by her office.
