Meanwhile, institutions are looking at ways to improve the road toll payment system. The Public Enterprise for State Roads is analyzing the use of electronic TAG devices to register vehicles entering and exiting highways.

Initial attention has focused on the Kičevo–Ohrid road, while the possibility of extending the system to other sections is also being assessed. According to the enterprise, plans also include the highways being built as part of Corridor 8 and Corridor 10d, under the project involving “Bechtel and Enka.”

The institution is considering allowing vehicles to enter and exit at every highway interchange. This would require organizing entry and exit points at the interchanges and adapting the infrastructure so vehicle movements can be recorded and tolls calculated according to the chosen model.

The enterprise notes that such a system requires major construction and technical work, especially in areas where the existing infrastructure does not meet the requirements. Modernizing toll payments is intended to reduce queues and stops, shorten travel times and expand the use of electronic payments.
