Serbia: First projections give the Student List 52% and Vučić 39%; around 138 seats in parliament

The first estimates for Serbia’s parliamentary elections, held with record turnout, have now been published.

According to the initial Ipsos/CeSID projection, the Student Electoral List has secured 52% of the vote, while Vučić’s coalition has received 39.3%. These results would give the student list approximately 138 of the 250 seats in parliament, but the figures are still preliminary.

The vote took place after nearly two years of mass protests against the government and was accompanied by exceptionally high turnout. The mobilization began after a canopy collapsed at Novi Sad railway station in November 2024, killing 16 people.

Students turned public dissatisfaction with corruption and the way institutions operate into a well-organized political demand. Their victory could pave the way for a change of government in Belgrade and significantly affect Serbia’s relations with the European Union, Russia and other Western Balkan countries.
