According to the party’s statement, the request follows extensive consultations and aims to supplement several articles and strengthen the law’s legal certainty. The PDK says this is linked to the state interest and the protection of the constitutional rights of former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army who are being tried in The Hague.
In the statement, the party said that reconsideration would create an opportunity to supplement certain provisions and strengthen legal certainty, while protecting the state interest and the constitutional rights of former KLA members before the Specialist Chambers.
The PDK said it was proud of the legislative initiative and the support it had received. It emphasized that protecting the KLA, the values of the liberation war and its former members who are facing trial in The Hague is a non-negotiable responsibility.
The party believes that most of the law has been completed. According to the PDK, returning it for reconsideration would serve as a final professional review and address issues that could hinder its implementation.
The PDK made clear that it wants the law returned to the Assembly, not the Government, and that it does not intend to restart the process from the beginning. According to the party, the goal is to complete the work and bring the law into force without unnecessary delays.
The PDK also called on experts willing to contribute, including the Ombudsperson, to submit concrete proposals.
The statement expressed the expectation that the law, adopted on October 6, 2026, would be voted on again within a few weeks. The PDK thanked its supporters and everyone who would help complete the process.
Meanwhile, the party said it would continue working on a coordinated state strategy for the appeal, securing the necessary funds and providing professional assistance for the defense in The Hague. According to the PDK, these efforts and the completion of the law should proceed simultaneously.
The PDK stressed that its readiness to improve the law does not mean abandoning the initiative and reiterated that it would insist on bringing it into force.
At the conclusion of the Parliamentary Group’s statement, the party declared that it stood behind the initiative, the citizens’ demand and its commitment not to leave former KLA members alone, adding that it would not retreat from its goal of bringing the law into force.
