Zhernovski asks about the behind-the-scenes of Mickoski’s meetings with Richard Grenell, who is under investigation in the US

The US investigation into Richard Grenell, suspected of misappropriating millions of dollars donated to the Kennedy Center and selling access to President Donald Trump, raises serious questions about Hristijan Mickoski’s relationship with him and the interests behind the Macedonian government’s contacts in Washington. Andrej Zhernovski, a member of the SDSM Board, said this at a press conference today.

According to Zhernovski, the case highlights a wider network of political and business interests involving the influence of Vučić and Orbán, lobbying firms and companies linked to their circles.

He recalled Mickoski and Foreign Minister Timčo Mucunski’s numerous meetings with Grenell in Washington and Skopje, as well as during the Munich Security Conference.

“This series of meetings is significant and speaks for itself about Mucunski and Mickoski’s ties to this person. We want to make it clear to the public here that Grenell has worked for Vučić for years,” Zhernovski said.

Zhernovski also mentioned the US lobbying firm “Valcour,” which, he said, worked to promote Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in Washington’s political and media circles. He added that documents submitted to the US Department of Justice show that representatives of “Valcour” communicated with Grenell from September 2025 to March 2026.

He also said that “Valcour,” in addition to representing Serbia, has ties to influential companies in the region, including “Telekom Serbia” and the Hungarian company “4iG.”

SDSM is calling on Prime Minister Mickoski to clarify the nature of his contacts with Grenell and say whether, during those meetings, he defended the interests of the state or those of individuals.
