Workers of the Public Housing Enterprise (NPB) gathered today in front of the Supreme Court, demanding that their case be reviewed as soon as possible. According to them, the prolongation of procedures is leaving them without income and damaging their daily lives, as well as those of their family members.

Xhevat Prebreza, who organized this protest, stated that behind this issue stand hundreds of employees and entire families waiting for a decision. He clarified that the reason for appearing before this court is precisely the pursuit of the rights that belong to them.
“Everything we have – our children, the bills, the daily food and the dignity of each employee – depends on this case file. We are not asking for any interference in the work of the judiciary, but only that the process not be needlessly prolonged, because what is at stake is the survival of our families,” Prebreza declared before those present.
In addition to the lack of income, he pointed out that the employees have not stopped their activity and remain faithful to their duties toward citizens.
“We ask the Supreme Court to answer us: how many months must a person wait for what they have earned with sweat? It is impossible to work and not be compensated. Why are other cases reviewed while ours remains behind?” he asked, adding that despite the exhaustion, services continue to be provided as well as possible for citizens, because “we are the right hand of the city.”
Prebreza emphasized that the workers’ patience has reached its end and called for an urgent review of the case by the highest judicial instance.
“Enough already! No more silence, no more delays, no more employees without salaries. Our demand is clear and we say it clearly: we are not touching the independence of the judiciary; on the contrary, we want justice to work for us. We are not asking for charity, but for what belongs to us by law,” declared the organizer.
He reminded the public of the employees’ contribution over the years, especially during the days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when, according to him, they did not stop working even in the most critical moments.
“While many others stayed at home, we here were at our workplaces, in good days and especially in difficult ones, and we gave our professional maximum. Therefore, we call on the Supreme Court to treat this issue with priority and to put an end to a wait that burdens hundreds of families. The voice of more than 380 employees today must be heard everywhere,” Prebreza declared.
According to him, a salary is not just a payment, but a fundamental right and a matter of dignity, while the current situation has made the shared family life of many of them impossible.
“Bread earned through work is dignity, but the employee is not simply a number. No one can ask his family to wait without income. We want to continue our work, we want to keep the enterprise functional and continue the services to citizens just as we have always done,” he emphasized.
Before the conclusion of the protest, Prebreza urged his colleagues to maintain unity and steadfastness in the demands they have raised.
“Unity is the only way for our voice to overcome the walls. Today we are all one, with a single demand: NPB employees want their pay, the most elementary right. We ask only for what we have earned through work, nothing more. Let us remain calm, strong and unwavering,” he expressed at the end of his speech.
After the protest ended, an NPB delegation entered the Supreme Court building to obtain information about the fate of the case. They were informed that the decision is expected to be reviewed in the coming days.
