Speaking on the “Flasim” podcast, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Albania is close to reaching an agreement with a university network in London. Rama also said that the agreement includes the opening of a network of universities: specifically, a medical university in Fier, a general university in Vlora, a technology university in Korçë and another general university in Tirana.

Studies at two of the universities will begin during 2027-2028, and at the other two during 2028-2029.
“Most likely, very soon, we will sign an agreement with one of the world’s largest university networks, based in London, and part of the agreement is also the joint plan to open the University of Medicine in Fier. The medical university in Fier will be international, with an international reputation and with Albanian students and students from around the world. We are very close; we have begun a process of discussions and have reviewed a study, a feasibility draft. It is fantastic, but we are waiting for their final study.
It is a very large investment that we will make. We will provide the infrastructure, while they will bring in lecturers, but an important component will also be the selection of Albanian lecturers, whom they intend to recruit not only here but also from the diaspora. It is quite an ambitious plan. There are 4 universities: the university in Fier, a university of excellence for medicine; the university in Vlora, a general university and the largest of the 4. Our ambition is to establish it in the center of Vlora, at Flag Square, as an international university that will create a new dynamic. Another will be in Korçë for technology and artificial intelligence, and the other, a general university, in Tirana. We want to conclude the entire process within this year, and we want classes to begin at 2 of the 4 universities in the 2027-2028 and 2028-2029 academic years, with all four becoming operational,” Rama said.
