The Parliamentary Group of the Democratic League of Kosovo met on September 7, 2026 to discuss the continuation of the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, scheduled for Wednesday, September 9.

The meeting started at 13:00 and, according to LDK spokesperson and MP Besian Mustafa, the agenda included only the session called for the election of the Assembly’s chairperson and deputy chairpersons.
The next session has been scheduled by the Assembly’s presiding officer, Avni Dehari.
Before the meeting, MP Vjosa Osmani said it was about ordinary preparations for the continuation of the constitutive session and that the party’s position would be made public after the meeting concluded.
After the meeting, MP Jehona Lushaku announced that LDK has decided to participate in the session and contribute to completing the process of constituting the Assembly.
“As a group, we decided to participate in the session and contribute to the constitution of the Assembly, because Kosovo is in an important phase for establishing institutions and their functionality. We have requested that the Assembly be constituted as soon as possible and that institutions regain their functionality. For this reason, we will participate in the session and give our contribution to creating institutions for Kosovo,” Lushaku declared.
Meanwhile, LDK MP Anton Quni denied rumors of divided groups within the party. He said that internal debates and differences are a natural part of the Democratic League of Kosovo’s diversity, whether they become public or remain within the organization.
“There are no groups. This is the diversity and nature of the Democratic League of Kosovo, where internal discussions are present. They can become public or be addressed within the organization. A more united LDK means more hope and progress for the Republic of Kosovo. Therefore, I ask you, in case any tension appears, to help us calm the situation,” Quni said.
MP Doarsa Kica Xhelili, however, considered the issue of scheduling the new session for the election of the president of Kosovo as complicated. According to her, a flexible deadline had been accepted earlier due to the ambiguities created by the Constitutional Court’s decision, but not a deadline that would be set after the previous deadline had expired.
Kica-Xhelili said that the constitutional deadline had expired in August and that the agreement on a flexible period was made due to the lack of clarity on the legal consequences of the Constitutional Court’s decision. She added that the Court had allowed some extraordinary actions in the name of establishing and making institutions functional, describing this situation as a consequence of previous decisions that, according to her, had ‘opened Pandora’s box.’
Referring to the acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, the LDK MP said that setting a date beyond the previously determined deadline shows a lack of seriousness about Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy.
“If Kurti had taken Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy seriously, he would at least have scheduled the session within the deadline he himself had set. The fact that he set a new date beyond that deadline shows that he was not committed to this candidacy and that there is a lack of a real and sincere intention to elect the president of the Republic of Kosovo,” Kica-Xhelili declared.
She also emphasized that, in her professional and legal assessment, she does not consider it reasonable to participate in a session that has exceeded constitutional deadlines. Kica-Xhelili said that initially she was willing to listen to the Parliamentary Group’s position, but after the additional two-three days passed, she sees participation in the next session as objectively impossible.
The MP added that, although she has had her own positions, she has always been open to colleagues’ opinions. According to her, any further attempt to experiment with constitutional deadlines must end.
