At least 10 people were killed and more than 60 others injured in a fireworks explosion at a church in Mexico during celebrations for the Day of the Patron Saint, authorities announced on Sunday.
The tragedy occurred on Saturday evening in the community of Santa Maria Cantata, in the State of Mexico. According to the government, the fireworks caused a fire in a parish building used as a warehouse, setting off the explosives stored inside.

Footage published by local media shows that the explosion occurred as dozens of people gathered in front of the church were celebrating the burning of a traditional fireworks-filled “bull,” which residents had brought in on a cart.
Immediately after the powerful explosion, flames engulfed the community square, while those attending fled in panic to escape the fire.
