The opposition party The Left has put forward a demographic policy proposal under which the state would cover part of a family’s home loan following the birth or adoption of a child.

According to MP Amar Mecinović, 20 percent of the outstanding home loan balance would be repaid for each newborn or adopted child.
“We propose that for every newborn or adopted child, the state will assume 20 percent of the family’s outstanding home loan,” Mecinović said.
Referring to recent statements by Education Minister Vesna Janevska, he said The Left’s proposal could be summed up as “20 percent for the brother and 20 percent for the sister.”
Mecinović explained that the level of support would be determined based on the family’s circumstances and the outstanding home loan balance.
