Two people remain missing after a French-registered fishing vessel sank in the English Channel. Three other crew members were rescued and taken to hospital.

British authorities were alerted shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, when they received a report that the vessel, carrying five people, was in distress off the coast of Plymouth, Devon.
Following the alert, a Coastguard helicopter and aircraft, as well as RNLI lifeboats from Falmouth and Plymouth, were involved in the operation. According to preliminary information, the vessel was in difficulty southwest of the Eddystone Lighthouse, about 15 miles south of Plymouth.
Three people were pulled from the sea on Saturday evening and taken to hospital for further treatment. Two others have still not been found.
The UK Coastguard said the search continued throughout the night and resumed on Sunday, with several vessels involved in the operation. In its statement, the authorities said: “Three people were rescued last night from the French-registered fishing vessel, which had issued a distress call. The search is continuing for two other people who remain missing. The vessel has sunk.”
The operation to find the two missing people is ongoing, while the exact circumstances that caused the vessel to sink have not yet been disclosed.
