Lawyer Genc Gjokutaj has commented on Erion Veliaj’s transfer from Durrës prison to the penitentiary institution in Fier, questioning the motives behind the decision and the way it was announced by the authorities.
During an interview on News24’s “Prime News24” program, Gjokutaj said that the transfer of remand or convicted prisoners is usually carried out at their request or after a serious violation has been identified.

Referring to political developments and protests against the government, the lawyer also raised questions about the way the prime minister is responding to the situation that has emerged.
According to him, officials implementing such an order may not have the ability to challenge it. Gjokutaj claimed that classifying the matter as secret information serves to avoid providing explanations regarding the transfer.
“In the overwhelming majority of cases, a transfer is carried out at the request of the remand prisoner or convicted person, or when a serious violation has been proven. If there is a connection between Gysi and Erion, that remains to be seen. There are three characters in this story: Erion, Gysi and Edi. Two of them are inside, while one is outside, so we must wait and see how events unfold. We do not know how the protest outside the office is affecting the prime minister’s state of mind or how clear-headed he may be. The others simply sign and cannot say no, which is why they use the term secret. But there is no secret,” he said.
