Prokshi: Murders of women reveal institutional weaknesses

Sociologist Dhurata Prokshi has stated that the number of women killed in Kosovo reflects serious shortcomings in how domestic violence is addressed and gender equality is implemented.

According to her, this issue initially takes shape within the family and through family education, and later also manifests itself in schools and the responsible institutions.

Referring to the latest case involving the murder of a woman, Prokshi described it as alarming that the victim, although educated and aware, and despite having taken steps to seek protection, was unable to save herself.

She stressed that the incident also highlights the failure of institutions to respond appropriately, even though the victim had repeatedly dealt with them.

Prokshi also criticized the attitude of some institutional employees who, according to her, treat helping citizens as an act of human kindness rather than a professional responsibility.
