During the extinguishing operation, two personnel sustained injuries. Fortunately, sources at the scene indicate their health condition is stable.
Numerous forces were deployed on the ground, including teams from the Public Enterprise “Pelister”, firefighting units from Bitola and Resen, supported by the Directorate for Protection and Rescue. Additionally, workers with heavy machinery from Bitola’s public enterprises and private companies contributed. Volunteers from the “Arhangell” Firefighters Association also played an active role.
Although the fire is isolated, crews have not withdrawn due to the possibility of hotspots reigniting. Today, a helicopter from the armed forces joined operations, conducting air strikes on the most sensitive points. New reinforcements are expected during the day, specifically volunteers from the Kočani Firefighters Association and two “Air Tractor” planes, significantly boosting response capacities.
Authorities remain on high alert, aware that climatic factors will determine whether the situation stays manageable. Director of NP “Pelister”, Ivanço Toshevski, stated: “The fire situation that engulfed Pelister National Park this morning is calm. The fire is localized, but the danger of spreading is serious. In the morning, we will intervene with a helicopter and two ‘Air Tractor’ planes.”
