Lura National Park Fire: Monitoring Officer and Two Environmental Rangers Under Investigation

Three people are facing criminal proceedings while remaining at liberty for the offense of “Abuse of Office,” following the fire that swept through Lura National Park.

Proceedings have been initiated against K. S., 35, and S. L., 51, both residents of Dibër, as well as A. L., 64, a resident of Tirana. Two of them work as environmental rangers, while the other person was responsible for monitoring the national park.

Investigators suspect that they failed to take the necessary measures to preserve, supervise and protect the area under their responsibility from fire. The flames burned and damaged several hectares of forest.

Investigations are continuing to fully clarify the circumstances of the fire, with the aim of determining the criminal liability of those tasked with managing and protecting the area.

Police are also working intensively to identify the person or persons who started the fire and bring them to justice.

The case materials have been referred to the Dibër Prosecutor’s Office, which will take further action.
