Ahmeti: I took over power at ground zero and left it with an Albanian prime minister in North Macedonia

Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, said during an interview on RTV21’s “Click” program that in every parliamentary term he led, he advanced the position of the Albanian community based on the principles of the Ohrid Agreement.

He explained that he had never acted to curtail the rights of Albanians. “Fair representation has continuously advanced from 0.3% or 1%, reaching 21% today, while they have disparaged it by saying that non-resident Albanians have been removed… Had they moved forward from where we left off, it would have been another victory for Albanians, but the situation has deteriorated so much that we need the strength to bring the country to a healthy state within North Macedonia,” he said.

Ahmeti went on to say that he inherited power in an empty state and transformed it. “I found this power at zero, while I left it with an Albanian prime minister in Macedonia. For an entire decade, I had left an Albanian at the head of Parliament, an Albanian as finance minister and another as foreign minister, which is the backbone of the state. I would never have expected this kind of result from them, but neither did I deserve to be denigrated,” Ahmeti concluded.
