The White House chief’s position came after Iran demanded compensation for the damage caused by US and Israeli strikes. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he was now also seeking compensation from the Iranian side.

The US president referred to victims of attacks and clashes linked to Iran, as well as the families of people who, according to him, were killed during protests against the Iranian government.

In his response, Trump also mentioned the October 2000 attack on a US warship in Yemen. Seventeen American sailors were killed and more than 30 others were wounded in the suicide attack, which was attributed to Al-Qaeda.

Meanwhile, Tehran has made the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz conditional on compensation for the damage caused, the lifting of sanctions and an end to military threats from the United States.

The debate over compensation is taking place amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran. At the same time, human rights organizations report that Iranian authorities are continuing their crackdown on opponents of the government.
