Koçeku reacts after clash outside Parliament: When the state runs out of arguments, all it has left are handcuffs and the rubber baton

Following the tensions recorded today outside Parliament between protesters, MPs and police forces, former Socialist Party MP Marjana Koçeku has reacted.

In a post published on Facebook, Koçeku says that violence was used by police against the protesters and stresses that a state that responds to public dissatisfaction with force is, in fact, showing its own weakness.

“I followed with concern today the police violence used against the protesters. I regret that the only communication and political message this government can offer protesters is violence.

When a state runs out of arguments, all that remains are the rubber baton, the handcuffs and the police officer’s boot.

But no government has ever prolonged its life by striking citizens who are asking to be heard.

Take the most crucial dates in history and you will see that we have proven this every time.

A state that chooses to respond to public dissatisfaction with violence is not demonstrating strength; it is demonstrating its inability to persuade,” Koçeku writes.
