Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated at today’s parliamentary session, during MPs’ questions, that he responds to Venko Filipče’s accusations about the rise in public debt by comparing this government with the SDSM government. According to him, the current executive, with three times less debt and within a period three times shorter, has achieved $140 million more in GDP in nominal terms.
Mickoski said it is fine that a campaign is under way, that comments on social networks are being censored, and that, according to him, objective questions are not being answered from the party rostrum, but added that facts and real figures must be heard in Parliament. He said that when public debt is discussed, economists around Filipče can provide answers about its increase, but at the same time it must also be explained what the growth in nominal GDP means.

“I will try to explain it to you. During the SDSM period, from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2023, public debt of 4.78 billion euros increased to 8.47 billion euros, or a net amount of 3.69 billion euros. The VMRO-DPMNE government that I lead in two years, as you say from 9 billion 619… let it be 11 billion euros as you say, that is 1.381, or 1 billion 381 million, approximately 2.8 – 3 times less than what you borrowed,” Mickoski stressed.
He added that although the SDSM government had a six-year period at its disposal and a high level of debt, it managed to increase nominal GDP by $4.52 billion. Meanwhile, according to him, this government, with three times less debt, has increased nominal GDP by $4.66 billion.
