Their discussion focused on North Macedonia’s European prospects, recent developments in EU enlargement policy and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Sali highlighted the importance of the European Commission’s new approach to preparing for a larger European Union. He stressed that enlargement should move faster, be predictable and be based on merit.
According to Sali, European integration should deliver results even before accession. He stressed that citizens and businesses should already be experiencing the benefits of closer ties with the European Union while work continues on the reforms needed for full membership. Gradual integration, he added, can turn the prospect of EU membership into tangible benefits.
