Rama threatens young protesters: Your family will get the bill! You won’t have access to airports or transport, and you won’t be able to go to the EU

Prime Minister Edi Rama has toughened his rhetoric toward protesters, warning that severe measures will be taken against those involved in acts of violence during anti-government rallies in Tirana.

The head of government also said they would be pursued “every step of the way,” and warned that the families of minors who cause damage during protests would face consequences.

During a meeting with leaders of Albania’s banking system, Rama said that the families of minors who damage other people’s property would not receive services from the state, without explaining the legal basis for such a measure.

“We will pursue them every step of the way. This is not a position taken just for the sake of talking; it is information for everyone who still has violence on their mind: get off that path as soon as possible. Anyone who has a minor child must look after them. Your family will get the bill. The family of a child who burns someone else’s property will not receive any services from the state,” Rama said.

But the prime minister’s warnings did not stop there. He also spoke about restricting the access of people involved in acts of violence to airports, trains, hotels and other forms of transport.

According to Rama, the government has begun cooperating with European countries to prevent people identified as violent from entering those countries.

“They will be denied access to trains, airports, hotels and means of transport. We will cooperate, and have already begun cooperating, with European countries to deny access to those countries to people identified as violent,” the prime minister said.
