The Vatican Press Office said the formation was detected during routine examinations and not because of any symptoms that would have required further checks, such as inflammation or infection.
Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, added that the Pope is continuing today’s schedule without difficulty and that, so far, no changes to his commitments have been announced.
Despite the planned operation, the Episcopal Conference of Uruguay announced that the program for the Pope’s visit to the country, scheduled for November 6, 7 and 8, remains unchanged for the time being.
In an official statement, representatives of the Church in Uruguay emphasized that preparations to welcome the Holy Father would continue according to the established plan.
“The Church of Uruguay continues to work and prepare to welcome the Holy Father and to experience this event with him,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the country’s bishops have called on the faithful to pray for the Pope’s health ahead of the surgical procedure.
