The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague sentenced Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years in prison for war crimes.

Krasniqi’s sister-in-law called the decision unjust, saying through tears that the family had expected to be reunited with him. According to her, neither Krasniqi nor the three other KLA leaders deserved to be imprisoned.
She said they represent the people’s freedom because they fought for the liberation of Kosovo. Krasniqi’s sister-in-law added that the family had not anticipated such an outcome and had expected those convicted to return home and celebrate with their families.
Describing Krasniqi as a very good man, she said she was deeply emotional and distressed by the decision. According to her, the family is seeking full justice and their release on appeal, as it believes they are being held there unjustly.
His sister-in-law stressed that Krasniqi had fought and worked for Kosovo, solely for the freedom of his homeland. She said the family watched the verdict together, exhausted after a week without sleep.
“This is a grave injustice. Why should they be imprisoned? The Serbs massacred and killed us, while these are the country’s finest sons,” she said.
Finally, Krasniqi’s sister-in-law questioned where justice was when, instead of returning home to spend time with his wife and grandchildren, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
