Sali: Negotiations on approving the Electoral Code continue

The first deputy prime minister and minister for European Affairs, Bekim Sali, said that the adoption of the Electoral Code by consensus among all political parties remains part of the negotiations. According to him, efforts to approve the law have intensified following the change at the Ministry of Justice.

Responding to journalists’ questions about European integration and reforms in the country, Sali recalled that the amendments had initially been unanimously supported by the political parties represented in Parliament. However, at the last moment, two political parties withdrew and did not vote for them.

“Following the change at the Ministry of Justice, efforts are now being made to approve this law, but the process remains in the negotiation phase,” Sali said.

Asked whether the institutions were also working on the Criminal Code, the deputy prime minister answered in the affirmative and highlighted the new justice minister’s commitment to the matter.

“The new minister is also committed to the Criminal Code. I believe these are laws that require consensus and broad support at various levels. The minister is working on it, and I hope he succeeds in achieving the ultimate goal,” Sali stressed.

He made the remarks before the start of the interregional meeting of chief negotiators and officials responsible for European integration from the Western Balkan countries, Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, as well as representatives of the European Commission and international partners.
