Following the parliamentary elections in Serbia, in which the Student List triumphed over the political force led by President Aleksandar Vuçiç, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj responded with a message on social media.
Veliaj congratulated Serbian students on the result, stressing that protests and youth movements are indicators of the transformations taking place in politics and society.

“Congratulations to the students for bringing down the Machiavellian and populist leader of Belgrade!” he wrote, referring to Aleksandar Vuçiç’s defeat.
According to the mayor of Tirana, student reactions should not be interpreted as a threat, but as evidence that an old political reality is coming to an end.
“Student movements and protests are not the ‘end of the world,’ but the end of ‘a world.’ The sooner we understand this as citizens and policymakers, the better we will know how to respond to the needs and expectations of this generation,” Veliaj said.
His message comes as student protests continue in Albania, with one of the main demands being the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Although Rama’s name is not mentioned directly, Veliaj’s position on policymakers’ responsibility toward the demands of the younger generation may be viewed in connection with political developments in the country.
Veliaj also conveyed his congratulations to Albanians in Serbia. According to current projections of the election results, their representation in parliament is expected to increase from one to two seats.
“Heartfelt congratulations also to our fellow Albanians in Serbia, who, according to the current projection, are increasing their representation from one to two seats. A stronger voice for the rights of Albanians in Serbia!” he concluded.
